What is the next step if my Social Security disability benefits were denied?
If your initial application for Social Security disability benefits was denied and your application for reconsideration was rejected, the next step is a formal appeal including a hearing before an Administrative Law Judge. This judge provides an independent review of the decision.
Will using a lawyer help with my appeal?
While many portions of your initial appeal you may choose to handle yourself, in order to pursue the best possible outcome it is to your advantage to use an attorney who is experienced with the Social Security appeals process. If your appeal goes to federal court, proceeding without the help of a lawyer is very difficult due to the complexity of a lawsuit at this level.
