Social Security Law
Two federal government programs provide disability benefits commonly known as Social Security disability benefits. The Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits program (SSDI) provides for disabled workers, dependents, and surviving spouses while the Supplemental Security Income program (SSI) provides for disabled persons with income and assets below a certain level.
Veterans Disability Law
Military veterans may obtain disability benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) under two main disability programs, one for service-connected disability and one for non-service connected pension. If your claim is denied by the Board of Veterans' Appeals, you have 120 days to file an appeal.
